Origin of the fog: When air masses coming from the Atlantic Ocean and the north ‘meet’
the Sintra Mountains, they are forced to rise, which causes condensation. This condensation gives rise
to the well-known mist.
Local synonym: Helmet
Mist is one of the factors that makes the microclimate of Sintra and Janas so unique and special. And as we consider this wine to be exceptional, we wanted to identify it with this very important event for Sintra.
It is through this that, especially during the summer, we are able to have cooler mornings, allowing the grapes to be naturally more protected from exposure to the sun. This results in longer, more constant ripening and naturally high acidity. Perfect harmony.
This wine will only be produced in exceptional years and in very limited quantities. This year, 2020, only 712 bottles of 0.75L and 92 bottles of 1.5L were produced.
Névoa de Janas was presented at our Open Day last Sunday and was such a success that we only have around 18 bottles available today.
There is no prediction as to when a second edition will be released. Our idea is to only make this wine when there are perfect climatic and oenological conditions.
A word of warning to members who haven’t bought yet: Don’t fall asleep. Then don’t say it wasn’t for lack of warning. 😴
